¿La inversión extranjera empeora o mejora la productividad? Un análisis de Panel VAR

Resumen

El documento estudia los efectos de la Inversión Extranjera Directa (IED) en la productividad. Hago dos hipótesis, la primera es que las firmas extranjeras consideran las asignaciones iniciales de stock de capital y capital humano para decidir qué tipo de inversión realizar. La segunda es que si las empresas extranjeras invierten, la productividad aumentará en los países con mayor asignación de acciones y capital humano y disminuirá en los países con menor asignación de acciones y capital humano. La metodología que utilizo es un Panel VAR cuyo estimador es Sistema GMM. Los resultados encontrados muestran que existen impactos positivos de la Inversión Extranjera Directa (IED) en la productividad para países con alto grado de desarrollo financiero y nivel de ingresos altos mientras que impactos negativos en países con bajo grado de desarrollo financiero y nivel de bajos ingresos en la mayoría de las estimaciones.
